Answers
1. Why should I get my music professionally edited or mixed with Rocketmusic?
Because we can help take you to the next level. Artists on the radio typically spend tens of thousands of dollars on engineers, producers, session musicians and managers to obtain the sounds you hear. Since most people don't have this kind of capital, we provide the next best thing: cost effective, professional production and engineering services that will neither break your bank or clog your schedule. Professionals know that artists tend to be too " close" to their own work to make it see its full potential. Its not uncommon for producers or engineers to suggest significant changes to an artist's proposed arrangement and structure. This outside perspective is an invaluable part of the professional 3-stage production process. We combine creativity, technical proficiency and talent with a focus on client satisfaction to ensure your music sees its potential.
2. What genres do you work on?
We employ a variety of talent, each of whom specializes in a particular style of music. This flexibility allows us to ensure your project is matched with someone who has experience in your genre. If you have specific questions, please contact us!
3. What type of gear will you be working on?
We typically use a combination of computer software and outboard effects processors to get the convenience of digital while retaining the warmth of analog audio.
4. How should I prepare my audio for mixing, editing or production?
In general, if your project is multitrack, we need to receive all tracks free from applied effects and easily syncronized at the start of the session. In other words, all the files need to start at the same point in time during the session. Ensure your tracks are free from clipping or distortion and be sure to name the files clearly. If you've been doing multiple takes, it may be best to bounce each track to a new file, and include the song name and instrument in the file name.
For better quality, try to record your project at a sample rate of 96kHz and 24 bit depth. We can, of course, work with material recorded at 44.1kHz/16-bit. Its up to you, but keep in mind that better specs on the recorded tracks tend to yeild better results. You can send tracks individually as wave files (.wav), or package them into an Open Media Format bundle (.omf).
If you have further questions, please contact us or discuss during your consultation.
5. What will we discuss during my consultation?
The free initial consultation is a valuable service you can use to gain insight on the process, and ensure all your questions are answered. Your engineer will ask you about your influences and ask for examples of songs you want your mix to sound like. (Its ok if you don't have examples). He or she will explain the process to you, review the format or your material, and ensure your questions are answered. If you have artistic or stylistic concerns, such as wanting a particular type of feel or effects applied, this is your time to let us know.
6. I already started mixing my song. Should I apply effects to my tracks?
We prefer to receive tracks in an unaltered state. This allows for the greatest flexibility during your session. (Compare it to a painter creating a work of art on a canvas tinted blue versus a blank one.) If you have already applied effects and can not remove them, we can certainly work around it.
7. Can you return my completed mix as a session file?
If this is something you require, please discuss it during your consultation.
8. Will you provide a mastered version of my song?
If requested, we can provide a demo master of your material. However, we recommend our partner Sam Skaf at MixLab for all mastering services.
The truth is, while we are capable of creating a master for you, to do so would not be in your best interests. For a truly professional mastering job, its best to hand the project over to an experienced mastering engineer, someone with ears fresh to the project who specializes in making final adjustments to a two-track mix. Be wary of engineers who offer to mix and master your song for you. They probably don't mean any harm, but allowing them do so could keep your mix form reaching its potential.
9. What is MixProtection™?
In short, MixProtection™ is a type of satisfaction guarantee. Since its fairly common to gain new insight into a mix after you have had some time away from it, MixProtection™ allows us the opportunity to provide you a new mix if we feel we can make an improvement over what we delivered, while also allowing you time to review the mix and suggest changes after listening to it for a few days. Your MixProtection™ period begins on the date your final mix was returned to you. Your session is stored on our servers for the duration of that period, and deleted thereafter. If you would like us to archive your mix for a longer period of time, please mention it to your engineer.
10. How are payment transactions and currency conversion handled?
To protect both you and us, we have chosen to use PayPal for all transactions. No signup is necessary, and their service is free. You can pay using any major credit card, a PayPal account, or even a checking account.
For our international clients: all prices stated are in United States Dollars. PayPal manages the currency conversion, which is based off of prevailing exchange rates.
11. What is your payment and refund policy?
All payments are non-refundable, as making a payment secures your engineer and studio time.
12. How should I prepare my audio for coaching?
Audio submitted for coaching services should be in Mp3 format, 44.1kHz sampling rate, 192kbps. If you need help converting your file to mp3, please contact us.
